Crystal Waters
Embark in an amazing journey on the mysterious tranquil waters of Golfo Dulce. Located in the southernmost territories of Costa Rica the Golfo Dulce (Sweet Gulf) is one of the most beautiful areas in America, coasted by dense jungles the contrast from the turquoise waters and the dark greens from the forest make it a truly magical experience.
Itinerary:
Day 1 – Welcome!!!
Euforia Expeditions' representatives will meet the group at the airport and introduce them to their first look around Costa Rica. You will be taken to the hotel where you can drop off your things and get ready for a ride downtown where you will enjoy some sightseeing with a local guide. Before heading towards the Southern Area we will check all equipment at night and make sure all that we will need for the expedition is in place.
DAY 1 - Technical Lectures and Gear check-up
Expeditioners will meet our staff and expedition director who will provide technical information about the expedition. He will give out the maps corresponding the areas the expedition will take place in as well as coordinates for plotting the beaches where we will be spending nights at. We will check all the gear that will be taken to the expedition, we will make sure all expeditioners do not take unnecessary gear and all equipment is evenly distributed amongst the all.
Day 2 – Trip to the Southern Areas
We will head towards San Isidro del General passing the city of Cartago, what used to be Costa Rica's main city during the Spanish colonization. We will be crossing the Cerro de la Muerte "Death's Peak" where you will get a first view of the Cordillera de Talamanca, which is the southernmost mountain range which will be guarding our entire expedition.
Once we get to the Paso Real intersection we will continue our way south to the town of Palmar Norte, riding along the gorgeous Grande de Térraba River. Past Palmar Norte we take a turn and start heading towards the water, our drive ends in the town of Rincón, in the furthest inland part of the Gulf where we will unload the trucks and get things ready for next day.
Day 3 – Kayak DAY 1 – Rinconto Mogos
After what will be our last stove cooked breakfast for the upcoming days we will suntan our faces and geat ready to set sails and paddle the beautiful waters of Golfo Dulce.
Today we paddle a total paddle of 17 kilometres (10.5 Miles), this is why breakfast should be taken advantage of! We will be stopping along the way for brunch and a few rest stops along the way.
On the way we will cruise by Mogos’ Islands (which we will visit next day on a relaxing paddle around the areas) to paddle into one of the most magical places on earth, a hidden paradise in the middle of the rain forest where we will be spending two nights.
Day 4 – Kayak DAY 2 – Islas Mogos
After the first day’s epic paddle we will head to the Mogos to spend the day in the islands and explore the area.
Remember that these areas are not frequently explores and that the probability that you do not meet other visitors during the expedition is high, not that you wouldn’t mind getting away from everyone for a week!
Day 5 – kayak DAY 3 – Mogos to Playitas
Enough resting, today we keep on heading towards our final destination, passing the mouth of the Río Esquinas paddling towards Punta Esperanza where we will be spending the night.
Day 6 – kayak DAY 4 – Playitas to Golfito and Back to the City
Our last day of paddling will be one of the most gorgeous; the water in the area is deep blue in some parts and crystal clear in areas where you can see the formation on beneath and schools of fish swimming next to you. There might be a little more turbulence in this section as for the gulf opens more and more as we reach our final destination, revealing us to the incoming waters of the Pacific Ocean, but we will safely seek shelter in Golfito, our final destination, where our kayak expedition comes to an end. A delicious lunch awaits us at Golfito where the 4x4s will meet us with cold drinks and smiley faces…
After loading the trucks we start our way back to the city.
Day 7 – Country Departure
We will have an early breakfast before we get ready to head towards the airport for departure.
